President Rtn. Yezdi Dubash 2015-16

At a large gathering on 30th July, 2015 at Radio Club Rtn. Yezdi Dubash was installed as the new President in the presence of DG Rtn. Subhash Kulkarni. The year began with new hopes and aspirations as it was the 1st year of the club after the merger.

Important Projects

5 new members were inducted, taking the total membership of the club to 60.

At the blood donation drive at CST, 138 bags of blood were collected and donated to Nair Hospital.

The Club organized general medical camp for 350 underprivileged girls of Bombay Girl’s School at Muhammad Ali Road

The annual medical camp was held at Utility Block, Cuffe Parade for the underprivileged benefitting 465 people. Various tests like; eye test, blood test, diabetes checkup, ECG, dental checkup were carried out. 352 spectacles were distributed free of cost.

We were the co-hosts of the Rotary Arogya Mela at High Street Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel. 3000 plus patients attended the Arogya Mela.

A very good project was sponsoring 17 open heart surgeries to benefit economically backward infants at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. These newborns were suffering from congenital heart diseases. After surgery the children could lead normal quality life.

 

The Club donated a water pump for “League of Mercy Shelter Home for Girls”.

Our Club has an ongoing project for sustainable development for tribals of 3 hamlets Diwanmal, Rayat and Dongar Pada in Bhiwandi. With the Global Grant the work of constructing 47 toilets and bath blocks was started. This would help them to lead hygienic lives.

We also donated eight sewing machines to train tribal women at Diwanmal Pada, Bhiwandi. This project intended to enable tribal women to become independent and contribute to family income.

The Club sponsored 11 poor children for “Let’s Talk”- English speaking classes for 2 months at YB Chavan Centre.

We co-hosted RYPEN-Muskaan; spreading smiles in which our Interact Clubs participated. We were also co-hosts for District MUNA for Rotaractors. 36 delegate teams represented 36 countries. It was a great learning event.

Fellowship was very strong. Speakers were invited from different fields who were great leaders in their profession to address the Club.

There was fireside meeting to integrate and assimilate the new members which was hosted by PDG Aziz Visram.

Rotarians from District also came to our Club to speak on TRF, Fellowship, Literacy, membership development and retention.

The highlight of fellowship meetings was Ghazal night at Ghia Hall where President Yezdi and his professional musicians regaled the audience with ghazal singing.

One day fun-filled picnic was organized at Mandwa Alibaug which gave an opportunity to the members to come closer to one another after the merger. Rtn. PP Vinod Momaya hosted it at his bungalow in Alibaug.While handing over the baton to the next President the outgoing President Yezdi Dubash expressed satisfaction with his performance during the year .

 

President Rtn. Dr. Bimal Malhotra 2016-17

At a scintillating function graced by District Governor Rtn. Gopal Mandhania on 13th July 2016, in the Presidency Lounge, Radio Club; Rtn. Dr. Bimal Malhotra was installed as the new President.

Important Projects

The year’s activities began with a Blood Donation Drive at CST Railway Station when our club partnered with Indian Medical Association and other Rotary Clubs and collected 78 bags of blood which were donated to G.T. Hospital.

The Club participated in the District Thrust Area Diabetes Awareness and Detection Camp at Utility Block, Cuffe Parade and at Carewell Hospital, Vasi Naka Chembur. 318 persons were checked in Chembur while 134 persons were checked in Cuffe Parade area. It was a great success and was reported in Jagat Pahari, Jan Shakti, Samna and Yashobhoomi.

Our Annual Medical Camp at CPRA Gardens was another great success where 450 people registered and were examined. DG Rtn. Gopal Mandhania, District team members, local corporators, MLAs visited the camp. Rtn. Darshan Chadda’s Trust “Lakshmi Devi Devraj Trust” distributed free spectacles to the needy.

Our Club sponsored English speaking course at Hume High School and English language lab was inaugurated. Prof. Ms. Nirupama Pai of Somaiya Vinay Mandir was appointed to conduct the course. Students were trained to communicate effectively in English.

The Club sponsored 550 midday meals to ISKCON costing Rs. 2,47,500/-.

With the help of Global Grant our Club constructed 46 toilets and bath blocks in Diwanmal Pada for tribals of Bhiwandi. The international club was RC of Iceland. This resulted in better sanitation, improvement in health and hygiene and water at doorstep. The project was inaugurated on 12th March 2017 by PDG Rtn. Ajay Gupta and PDG Rtn. Nitin Mangaldas. Our deepest gratitude to Rtn. Sugra Bagasrawala for heading the project.

Another meaningful project was construction of toilet blocks at Vidya Vikas Hindi School at Vapi. It was fully sponsored by Rtn. G.L Modi. The club raised Rs. 2 lakhs for the education of poor students in Vapi.

Our club sponsored teacher’s salary for computer classes being held at Colaba Municipal School. It’s an ongoing project.

Rtn. Ajay Kasotia donated 5 computers to Bombay Institute for Deaf and Mute at Mazgaon.

Our Club participated in District Painting Competition “Taare Zameen Par” whereby we conducted painting competitions for 270 students of our 3 Interact schools namely- Manav Mandir School, Rehmat Bhai School and Hume High School. Certificates were given to the participants.

The Club donated books to Hume High School to build up their library.

Rtn. Aditya Singh took the initiative of starting the Rotaract Club of Athena which became our third Rotaract Club other two being; Rotaract Club of Mumbai Downtown and Rotaract Club of Wilson College.

Our Club organized for the first time Adventure RYLA at Kamath Residency Adventure Resort at Nagothane on Mumbai-Goa Highway.

There were 60 participants. Activities included rock climbing, rifle shooting, archery, rappelling and flyfox. A talk on leadership and number of team building activities were also organized. Rotaractors exhibited their skills, potential and qualities of leadership. This became our annual activity.

Fellowship was at its peak. Numerous fellowship dinners were sponsored individually by club members. A musical entertainment programme and a dance performance were also organized.

An extremely enjoyable fellowship trip was organized for members and spouses to Bhutan. Many thanks to Rtn. Ashok Malhotra and Rtn. PP Shabbir Rangwala for organizing it.

Ending her term on a happy note the outgoing President Rtn Dr B Malhotra acknowledged the unstinting support given to her by the board members and club.

President Rtn. Anantram Mittal 2017-18

Rtn. Anantram Mittal Was installed as President at an impressive function held at Flamboyant Cuffe Parade by the District Governor Rtn. Praful Sharma. There was a large galaxy of distinguished dignitaries who were present at the ceremony.

President Mittal was a wonderful and dedicated Rotarian. He was passionate about Rotary Foundation and had managed to get many Global Grants which helped Club to do many meaningful projects.

During his year under Global Grant titled “Saving Lives” our club sponsored 129 pediatric heart surgeries. 100 at Wadia and 29 at Wockhardt Hospital.

Under another Global Grant titled “Pediatric Heart Surgeries” our club sponsored one pediatric surgery at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and 49 at Wockhardt Hospital.

Under yet another Global Grant Hemodialysis equipment support was given to Bir Hospital in Nepal to provide facility for dialysis to the patients as hospital was in desperate need.

Another meaningful project under Global Grant was treatment of pediatric patients suffering from cancer at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for children. The hospital agreed to treat poor children at subsidized cost.

One of the biggest medical camp was organized during this year. It was Free Full Body Health Checkup Mega Camp at Najam Baugh in association with Saifee Ambulance Trust and Sunrich Foundation. More than 1200 registrations were there. Patients came from Pune and Nasik also. The facilities offered were full body cancer checkup, diabetes screening, eye checkup, pediatrics, retinopathy, gastroenterology, orthopedics, ENT, dental, dermatology and general checkup. Thanks to Rtn. PP Shabbir Rangwala who fully sponsored the project costing approximately Rs. 5 lakhs.

Mega Medical Camp, an annual project of our club was successfully organized at Vikas Garden, Cuffe Parade. Corporators Ms. Harshita Narvekar and Shri Makrand Narvekar visited the camp.

The club continued to sponsor midday meals through ISKCON foundation. A total of 525 midday meals were given. The cost being Rs.2,36,250/-

Our club sponsored 60 pairs of protective shoes supporting “Leprosy Mission Trust India”.

A very meaningful project of the year was construction of water dam in Balsoor village in Omerga Taluka in Marathwada region of Maharashtra which was a drought affected area. Besides this, for 90 days continuously one big water tanker was supplied daily to the drought affected area at Latur on behalf of our club by Sunrich Foundation. Rtn. PP Shabbir Rangwala donated Rs.5 lakhs for the project.

Annual RYLA was organized for Rotaractors very successfully. Team building activities, field games, yoga session, campfire and adventurous activities made it very interesting.

Rtn. R.A. Goenka donated Rs.80,000 and President Mittal Rs.20,000 towards literacy project of “Friends of Tribal Society” wherein 100 students were supported.

For the first time in history our District organized a Seminar-cum-Award Nite on World Water Day titled “Water is Life- Nature of Water- A Confluence of Ideas and Experiences” at Nehru Science Centre, Worli. Our club was the co-host. Out of the top 10 water projects of clubs that were showcased, top 3 entries were given Awards jointly by RI District 3141 and Nehru Science Centre with GOI Ministry of Culture.

Our water project at Latur where 90 water tankers were delivered to help drought affected people continuously for 90 days by Sunrich Foundation Chairman Rtn. S.Rangwala got recognition. The capacity of one tanker was 10,000 liters.

Rtn. G.L. Modi and Rtn. Shabir Rangwala agreed to join the elite group of AKS members by completing their individual contribution towards TRF. It was entirely due to the convincing ways of President Mittal that the club was able to raise the bar of TRF contribution. They were recognized during the District Conference 2018 at J.W. Marriott for their philanthropy.

Throughout the year, fellowship was very good. Our club organized a grand musical spouse evening “Sanman Samaroh” filled with fun, friendship and fellowship in CCI to honor major benevolent donors and pillars of strength of our club who achieved new levels during the year. District Governor Rtn. Prafull Sharma was the Chief Guest.

The spouse musical evening was hosted by our member Rtn. Rohan Dalmia at his residence in Worli. It included playing housie game, live orchestra, cocktails and dinner. DG Nominee Rtn. Harjit Talwar was Chief Guest.

20 members and spouses went for International Fellowship trip to Russia in September 2017. They visited St. Petersburg where they exchanged Club flags.

At the end of eh glorious year as President Rtn Anantram Mittal gratefully praised the warmth of fellowship and goodwill extended to him by club members .

President Rtn. Narendra Shenoy 2018-19

At a large gathering on 25th July 2018, Rtn. Narendra Shenoy was installed as President of the club along with his team at M.C. Ghia Hall. The Installation Ceremony was graced by DG Rtn. Shashi Kumar Sharma and many District dignitaries.

A number of meaningful projects were undertaken this year.

Our annual medical camp with Ravindra Patni Family Charitable Trust was organized at Vikas Udyan, Utility Block Cuffe parade. Total beneficiaries were 540 from the slums around. Corporator Harshita Narvekar and MLA Adv. Rahul Narvekar graced the camp. Doctors from S.L.Raheja Hospital and Indu Clinic did the medical check-up which included bone density, eye, ECG, pediatric check-up, diabetes and ENT. Free medicines were distributed. Free spectacles were donated by Lakshmi Devi Devraj Trust (A Chadda Family Trust).

A general medical camp at Vasi Naka Chembur was organized which benefitted 278 people. It included eye check-up, diabetes, B.P, ECG, BMI check-up and Osteoporosis tests.

Our club was the lead host club for CSR seminar and Mission Muskan Awards Felicitation Program held at BSE Convention Hall Fort. It was a joint initiative of Rotary and GoM to provide free surgical medical treatment to underprivileged children including heart surgeries, liver, kidney, orthopedic, cochlear implants, cancer, etc. 700 plus surgeries were completed. Rtn. GL Modi, Rtn. Shabbir Rangwala, Rtn. Darshan Chadda and Rtn. Anantram Mittal were honored. Rtn. GL Modi was one of the highest individual contributor towards Pediatric Heart Surgeries under Mission Muskan. Rtn. Darshan Chadda donated Rs.1lakh in memory of his late grandson.

Jaipur foot project was undertaken with the help of Ratnanidhi Charitable Trust. A sum of Rs.1.50lakh was raised by Rtn. Dr. B. Malhotra for the project. 40 calipers, 3 Jaipur foot, 6 crutches and 5 wheelchairs were distributed to beneficiaries.

A very beneficial project was water and sanitation project at ZP Adivasi Bhoirwadi Karjat School where water was made available by constructing a pipeline from existing borewell up to a village road junction for students and travellers from nearby villages and installed a water tank for drinking water for bullocks and cattle.

The club also completed a project at Raigad ZP Primary School, Bhoirwadi, Karjat. Two toilet blocks and bathrooms were done up with new tiles, sanitary fittings and proper water supply.

PP Dr. Bimal Malhotra organized Senior Citizens Welfare Project at J.J. Dharmsala where we donated dry ration for one month. The club also sponsored a three-seater bench with a plate affixed with the name of our club. A visually challenged boy entertained 80 inmates with his melodious singing.

The club distributed Patanjali products such as atta, edible oil, honey, ghee, chayawanprash and spices worth Rs.2.5lakhs to slum dwellers at Cuffe Parade from our Utility Block.

A few beneficial projects included:

  1. Donation of 10 wheelchairs and tricycles to beneficiaries in Chembur and Bhiwandi were gifted
  2. Five floor mills were gifted to Adivasi women of 5 different villages in Shahpur which gave them livelihood.
  3. One sewing machine and one eyelet making machine were donated to 2 Hon. Teachers of Anganwadi. The machines would help them to get decent income in their community.

There was very good fellowship throughout the year. Dandiya Night with musical band was organized during Navratri festival. Club members attended Race for Humanity Fund Raiser hosted by Rotary Club of Mumbai Nariman Point at Race Course.

A fireside meeting for new members was hosted by Rtn. Sohini Patel at Malabar Hill Club. Rotary information was imparted to the new members and Rotaractors by Rtn. Aditya Singh.

As the curtain dropped over the year the outgoing President was satisfied with his achievements .He felt the flame will be brighter as it was being handed over to the b

next President Rtn Rohan Dalmia ,a young and energetic Rotarian and his valued team .

President Rtn. Rohan Dalmia 2019-20

At a glittering function held on 21st July 2019 at CCI young Rtn. Rohan Dalmia was installed as the new President in gracious presence of DG Rtn. Harjit Singh Talwar.

The new President pledged that the club would have another glorious year of Rotary Service.

Important Projects

The activities of the club began with Blood Donation Drive at CST Railway Station. 58 units of blood were collected and donated to Nair Hospital.

A dental check-up camp for children of Hume High School was organized by Dr. Bimal Malhotra, Director Medical.

On the occasion of World Deaf Week, Rotaract Club of Caduceus in association with our club organized a free general health check-up camp for 150 deaf and mute kids of our Interact School “ Bombay Institute of Deaf & Mute” Byculla. Play therapy and fun classroom activities were planned throughout the day and 100 T-shirts were distributed.

Our club cohosted Rotary Cycle Rally for Diabetes to spread awareness for diabetes. The rally included a prize of brand new 21 speed bicycle and goodies through a lucky draw.

Annual Medical Camp was another great project. 530 people registered at Vikas Udyan garden behind our Utility block at Cuffe Parade. 10-12 medical tests were conducted free of charge and free medicines were given. Doctors from S.L.Raheja Hospital, Mahim and Indu Clinic, Colaba conducted the camp. Municipal Corporator Smt. Harshita Narvekar (Ward 226) fully supported the camp and visited it. Thanks to Rtn. Darshan Chadda through Lakshmi Devi Devraj Trust for donation of free spectacles and thanks to Rtn. Sadhna Patni through her Trust to sponsor the camp.

A very meaningful project started in the previous year was completed in 2019-20. It was bringing water to the doorsteps of the Tribal homes. With the help of Global Grant club had constructed 46 toilet and bath blocks for tribals in Bhiwandi in 2015. As per the feedback the women had to travel a distance of 1km carrying water from well to their houses. This was tedious. So the club laid down two water pipelines for drinking and water tank for toilet blocks. With this the water supply was brought to doorsteps of villagers’ homes for drinking as well as for sanitary purposes. A 20,000 liters Sintex water tank was installed with motor pump. The project in-charge were Rtn. Yezdi Dubash and Rtn. Sugra Bagasrawala.

Our club was the lead host club for Rotary Rojgar Mela under Rotary Seva Abhiyan at Hume High School. It was a great success. More than 100 candidates were interviewed for employment. 19 reputed firms were present giving opportunities for 500 vacancies.

Under the ages of Youth Avenue District Adventure RYLA was organized by the club at Kamath Residency at Nagathane. There were 80 participants from 10 different Rotaract Clubs. The activities included sessions from well-known speakers, crazy concepts, innovative ideas, campfire, ice-breaking events, DJ night and treasure hunt.

With the help of Global Grant and donation of US$50,000 E-Learning project was completed. 190 schools in Palghar were equipped with E-learning kits. To celebrate its successful completion we invited RI President nominee Rtn. Shekhar Mehta at Taj President Vivanta. It was attended by number of dignitaries. Rtn. Darshan Chadda was specially felicitated as the head of the donor Chadda Family Trust.

President Rtn. Rohan Dalmia, Rtn. Anantram Mittal and Rtn Onkar Sarang participated in Rotary India Centennial Summit 2020 at Kolkata. Our club took a stall to promote our pediatric heart surgeries project and raise funds for it. thanks to Rtn. Ramavtar Goenka for sponsoring the stall. 5000 delegates from 40 countries and more than 80 current and past RI leaders from across the globe attended.

Vocational skill classes comprising of tailoring and beautician courses were started at Shiv Shakti Nagar, Colaba in association with Jan Shikshan Sanstha.

A total of 11 Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of Athena School of Management went for 2.5 month exchange program to Europe. First part involved one week immersion at Amsterdam University in Holland followed by a two month internship in companies across Prague, Rotterdam, Istanbul, Hague and Amsterdam.

Fellowship was also very strong. Maharaja of Tripura, Shri Kirit Pradyot Deb Barman was specially invited and was the keynote speaker at Yacht Club, Colaba. The club honored him with “Humanitarian Award” for his selfless contribution in development of community in Tripura. He was also inducted as an Honorary member of the club.

An international fellowship trip was organized in September 2019. Ten members and their spouses went for Genting Dream Cruise. The Cruise covered Singapore, Penang, Phuket, Langkawi and Port Klang.

The club was co-host for number of District programs.

There was an increase in membership also. The club inducted 16 new members in the year taking the total to 77.

On the onset of COVID period, the club donated PPE kits costing 7.50lakhs to 820 beneficiaries, masks costing Rs.3lakhs to 5000 beneficiaries, sanitizers 1500liters, specially designed masks for deaf and mute 300 beneficiaries, immune booster pills were distributed to 1lakh people in Navy Nagar and surrounding slums.

Food packets costing Rs.6lakhs were distributed to 21,500 beneficiaries. Food grains worth Rs.10.5 lakhs to 1900 beneficiaries, ration kits to slums in South Mumbai, Fort, Colaba and Cuffe Parade and Vasi Naka Chembur. Donated 1000kgs of rice, 1020kgs of wheat flour for slum dwellers at Vasi Naka and Chembur camp. 300 liters of nutritional milk was distributed.
